Our Web3 news roundup for today will touch on several well-established brands and budding startup projects that co-exist on the blockchain.

Upon summary of the events that transpired in the space as of late, we see the nascent technology make an impact on various fields. Evidently, the decentralized nature of Web3 allows entities of varying size and structure to come together in the expanding ecosystem. This includes companies, creators, and projects from world of sports, gaming, finance, communications, art, culture, etc.

Some of the brands that made some noise in the scene today include Animoca Brands, Arevo, Binance, FIFA, GameStop, NCSoft, NTT Docomo, Uhuruverse Labs, and Yuga Labs, among others. Meanwhile, Web3 games such as Eldarune, Galaxy Fight Club, NFT Soccer Games, Rumble Kong League, and Snake City also made some significant moves.

  • Amid a bear market that has deeply affected Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), video game and electronics retail giant GameStop’s NFT marketplace has reached a new milestone after it hit $5 million in trading volume. Members of the Web3 community attribute part of this success to blockchain gaming-focused ecosystem Immutable X (T).

  • Web3 artificial intelligence (AI) leaders Altered State Machine announced a new partnership with international football (or soccer) governing body FIFA. The result is AI LEAGUE: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition. Basically, the project is a “smart football” game experience that kicks off with a prediction challenge on November 20 (PRN).

  • Salih Shah, a former executive for popular social media entities Meta and Pinterest, is now the COO of a new blockchain platform called Decentralized Social (DeSo). In late September, the Japan-based project raised $200 million from high profile investors such as Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Coinbase Ventures, Sequoia, and Winklevoss Capital, to name a few (CT).

  • The world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance, announced its intentions to acquire crypto billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried’s platform FTX. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao revealed that the Bahamanian exchange sought his company’s aid in solving its liquidity problems (CS).

  • The founders of blockchain and NFT company Yuga Labs recently expressed their support for the idea of imposing NFT creator royalties. The creator of popular NFT collection Bored Ape Yacht Club also spoke out against platforms that oppose royalties (D).

Web3 Gaming

  • South Korean developer and publisher NCSoft is increasing its presence in Web3 with its $15 million investment for Mysten Labs. The game company is behind successful titles such as Aion, Blade & Soul, Guild Wars, and Lineages (D).

  • Games industry PR firm Raptor PR is set to handle Kinetix, a metaverse platform for user-generated 3D animation. Raptor PR is one of the top communications agencies for traditional video games and Web3 gaming, as well as media brands (EG).

  • Blockchain-focused investment company Modori announced a partnership with game publishing company Neowiz. The collaboration aims to build NFT services for upcoming Web3 gaming platform Intella X (NFTG).

  • Avalanche-based action/survival game Snake City teased the release of “the first PvP game mode on mobile.” While the team did not divulge the release date and other details, they said that the new offering involves “various types of tournaments” with different designs (TW).

  • Cross-IP game Galaxy Fight Club has added characters from dog-themed collection Doge Pound and enigmatic NFT project Neo Tokyo (TW).

  • Play-to-Earn (P2E) football manager project NFT Soccer Games recently partnered with AAA medieval/fantasy RPG Eldarune for the upcoming Eldarune Cup. The tournament is giving away $250 worth of $ELDA tokens along with four NFTs (TW).

  • Upcoming NFT basketball game Rumble Kong League announced the launch of its “Kongcubator Fund.” Basically, the fund aims to help builders of Kong-inspired projects. Applications are open from November 1-30, and the build phase will run from December 7 until February 28, 2022 (TW).

  • Singapore-based GameFi blockchain startup Ethlas announced a series of strategic partnerships with several GameFi platforms. In a bid to bring Web3 gaming to a broader audience, the collaboration welcomed the following projects: Carv, Beanterra, Mana Games, and Playdex (KH).

NFTs Around the World

  • Japanese messaging app Line’s NFT unit LineNext has launched a consumer-to-consumer (C2C) marketplace on NFT platform DOSI. According to LineNext, DOSI has users across 149 countries with 170,000 membership NFTs launching its beta service in September (TC).

  • Arevo, a 3D-printing company well-known for their carbon fiber products, has partnered with software and venture capital company Animoca Brands. The collaboration aims to produce a new line of carbon fiber bikes that are inspired by and adorned with NFT artworks (E).

  • Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) discovery and governance platform ApeParkDAO has unveiled plans to launch its first-ever NFT collection. The digital assets will be part of a metaverse ecosystem that the team is currently building (SLB).

  • Australian Web3 and NFT marketing agency Mooning has partnered with upscale hotel brand Pullman Hotels to launch an immersive traveling exhibition titled “Digital E/SCAPES by Pullman.” The event will feature four Indigenous female artists from Australia and overseas (MB).

  • Uhuruverse Labs has launched its “Uhuru NFT” collection on the Ethereum blockchain. Led by Nigerian Web3 proponent and entrepreneur Aso Obinna Eke, the project focuses on stories about African culture and history (TCL).

  • Community-based Decentralized Exchange (DEX) Margin X has launched on the Function X blockchain. According to reports, the DEX accumulated a total transaction volume of more than 45 billion USDT during the platform’s beta test in August 2022 (BIC).

  • The Middle East, Africa & Asia Crypto & Blockchain Association (MEAACBA) officially launched on Nov. 8 at the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). The newly established organization aims to promote Web3 growth in the MENA region (CT).

  • London-based employee recruitment platform Job Protocol raised €1.5 million ($1,511,385) in a pre-seed round. The decentralized portal launched on November 8, 2022. Basically, the project aims to use Web3 capabilities through digitizing incentives and promoting hiring transparency, among others (TEU).

  • Iconic clothing brand Levi’s Amy Gershkoff Bolles recently talked about the “huge amount of opportunities in the Web3 space.” Bolles is the company’s global head of digital and emerging technology strategy. The technology executive’s resume includes companies such as Bitly, Ebay, and Tradesy, as well as institutions like the University of California Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and Princeton University (MR).

  • Smart contract platform Astar Network partners has partnered with Japanese mobile phone operator NTT Docomo. The collaboration will focus on Web3 mass adoption and various issues surrounding the space (FF).
