Sports fantasy game Sorare announced on September 7, 2022, a partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA).

The multiyear project makes Sorare the “Official NFT Fantasy Partner of the NBA.” In addition to that, the league has granted them the rights to use official NBA logos on its products.

“With Sorare’s emerging NFT fantasy platform, we see significant opportunities to broaden our community of fans and grow NBA basketball around the world,” said NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

The digital collectible-based fantasy basketball game employs a Free-to-Play model and is slated for release in October. The launch comes just in time for the start of the NBA’s 2022-23 season.

The game allows basketball fans to compete in a fantasy gaming experience that utilizes Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Participants can create a basketball squad using digital representations of some of the best hoop stars in the league. Additionally, users can earn points based on the real-life performance of the NBA players on their roster.

“The NBA has been at the forefront of digital experiences and collectibles and our game gives basketball fans the ultimate sports entertainment experience,” Sorare Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Julia

In celebration of the partnership, Sorare announced on September 8, 2022, a giveaway contest. Lucky participants can get the chance to win NBA Opening Week tickets. To enter the draw, contestants are required to retweet Sorare’s official post, sign up here, and follow SorareNBA on Twitter.

About Sorare

Created in 2018 by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort, Sorare started out as a fantasy game of football based on the Ethereum blockchain. The game allows participants to assume the role of team manager, granting them the ability to form a squad. The roster features athletes based on real-life pros from 280 officially licensed football clubs.

On May 12, 2022, Sorare signed a partnership deal with Major League Baseball (MLS) to create a fantasy game for baseball. The company released the game on July 19, 2022.

The NBA is Sorare’s third major sports league partner. The globally known basketball brand will cater two million registered users (across 185 countries) on Sorare’s platform.

“Sorare has built an innovative gaming experience that creates a whole new way for fans worldwide to interact with and learn more about our players,” NBPA Executive Director Tamika Tremaglio stated. “We are very excited about this partnership and the effect Sorare will have on the growth of the players and the game globally.”

Blake Griffin and Rudy Gobert

On September 7, Sorare welcomed Blake Griffin and Rudy Gobert to the team as the game’s latest investors. Griffin is a six-time All-Star and Gobert is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year. The two athletes combine for over two decades of experience in the league.

Both sportsmen will be “invaluable coaches” to the Sorare team as the game launches with the NBA’s 77th season.

“As basketball has shifted from local supporters to global fanbases, NBA fans are looking for new ways to be connected to the game, the players and other fans.” said Blake Griffin. “Sorare understands that, bringing Free-to-Play sports fantasy gaming to reality.”

Frenchman Rudy Gobert is looking forward to help Sorare expand with the help of his International fanbase.

“I’m looking forward to helping the team and the Sorare community connect with basketball fans around the world,” Gobert said.
