Solana Labs recently unveiled plans to build Saga, a smartphone designed specifically for Web3 apps. If Solana succeeds in building this game-changing phone, Saga will attract more users to enjoy the benefits of Web3.

“Almost 7 billion people use smartphones around the world and more than 100 million people hold digital assets – and both of those numbers will continue to grow,” Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko said in a statement.

“Saga sets a new standard for the web3 experience on mobile,” he added.

According to Yakovenko, the Saga crypto smartphone is scheduled for release in Q1 of 2023 standing at $1,000.

Prior to Saga’s conception, other companies have already attempted to develop smartphones with blockchain and crypto capabilities. Samsung’s KalytnPhone, HTC’s Exodus and Finney phone by Sirin Labs, are some of the hybrid blockchain-smartphones that precedes Saga.

Since Web3 is designed for desktop browsers, users often miss out on transactions and activities. Among them things such as NFT minting and trading when doing so from mobile. Solana Labs’ goal is to address this problem with a flagship device like Saga. In parallel, Solana Labs also introduced the Solana Mobile Stack (SMS), a crypto toolkit for easier Web3 app building.

Solana Mobile Stack is open-source. It enables native Android web3 apps on Solana and comes with a Seed Vault for securing private keys. In addition, the company also launched their own Solana dApp store acting as a distribution channel for various applications.

“Developers can now bring the power of Solana to the computers in our pockets, not just our backpacks,” Solana co-founder Raj Gokal said in a statement.

“Solana can revolutionize so much of what we do everyday, but we need to open the possibilities for decentralized apps on our mobile devices in order for this potential to be realized,” he added.
