March Madness, Epic Games Adds Web3 Games, Limit Break to Acquire FreeNFT

  • March Madness: As America’s favorite annual collegiate basketball event prepares for kick-off, the NFT and Web3 gaming community looks to join the fray. Sports-focused projects such as Rumble Kong League (RKL), BALLERZ, Own the Moment, and NBA TopShot, will be participating in their NFT offerings. Also joining them in the upcoming NCAA fever are digital collectible marketplace Kraken NFT and Web3 sports platform Knights of Degen (FM).

  • Wemade/pace and Time: South Korean gaming giant Wemade has partnered with Space and Time, a Microsoft-backed decentralized data storage firm. The collaboration will enable Wemade to leverage Space and Time’s suite of developer tools to power its blockchain and gaming services (FB).

  • Epic Games: Video game developer Epic Games has revealed that the company has almost 20 Web3 games to be listed on its marketplace. Epic Games is best-known for developing popular Web2 titles such as Fortnite, Gears of War, Infinity Blade, and Unreal. Last year, the firm made waves in the blockchain space with the listing of NFT-enable game Blankos Block Party (BW). 

Web3 Games

  • Limit Break/FreeNFT: Web3 gaming company Limit Break is set to acquire NFT distribution platform FreeNFT this month. The initiative will enable developers to utilize the tool in giving away free digital assets to collectors. “This launchpad will give developers the opportunity to showcase their talents and reach a wider audience,” Limit Break CEO stated (JG).

  • Planet IX/Arc by Gamee: Space-themed strategy game Planet IX and Web3 mobile arcade Arc8 by Gamee has formed a partnership. Blockchain gamers can now battle across 13 games on the Arc8 app, while earning Planet IX’s native token $IXT. Moreover, players can also climb up leaderboards to win Planet IX Arcade NFTs and Starter Packs in sponsored tournaments (NFTE).

  • Mysten Labs/BlueJay: Web3 infrastructure company Mysten Labs has teamed up with gaming studio BlueJay Games. The partnership will launch mobile Web3 arcade game Arcade Champion on the Sui layer-1 (L1) blockchain. In essence, Arcade Champion is a reinvention of classic titles that leverages NFTs, while employing play-to-own (P2O) elements (BW).

  • Community Gaming/Game7/3XP Gaming Expo: Web3 gaming entities Community Gaming, Game7, and 3XP Gaming Expo, have formed a partnership. The team-up aims to bring a festival that will highlight esports, creators, and brands. Running from June 8 to 9 at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California, the expo will also coincide with the Summer Game Fest in Inglewood (VB).

  • Metalink: Venture capital-backed NFT portfolio management and social platform Metalink has launched its mobile app. According to the company, the all-in-one application can create a token-gated space where collectors can interact, combine announcements, and track the performance of their NFT portfolio. Metalink is backed by internet personality Gary Vaynerchuk and MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright, among others (CD).

  • A.A. Murakami: London/Tokyo-based artist duo A.A. Murakami has unveiled its NFT installation on MakersPlace, a marketplace for rare digital fine art. Titled “The Passage of Ra,” the project draws inspiration from the Egyptian Sun God Ra. The latest offering will be available for presale on the platform on March 20. Additionally, a general sale will also be held on the 21st of March (PRN).

Into the Metaverse

  • InsightAce Analytic: According to a recent market study by InsightAce Analytic, the global ‘Metaverse in Education Market’ could reach $102.57 billion by 2031. The firm cited the fast-increasing usage of virtual technologies in the education sector. Furthermore, the company also mentioned public acceptance and growing investments flowing into the virtual world (GNW).

  • The Sandbox: Metaverse game The Sandbox has introduced a few new projects on its platform this week. One of them is a virtual real estate game called MetaResidences, which offers luxury mansions which feature a “real-world, new construction home in Miami, Florida, complete with a digital twin in The Sandbox metaverse” (TW).
