AAA game studio Gunzilla Games raised $46 million in its latest investment round on August 9, 2022. This new round allows the company to build Gunz, a new platform that will grant players complete ownership over their in-game assets.
Led by Republic Capital, other major investors include game software and venture company Animoca Brands, crypto exchange Huobi Global, and investment firm Morningstar Ventures.
What is GunZ?
GunZ is a platform that will feature mechanics such as in-game trading of NFTs. The platform will serve as the foundation of the game called Off The Grid (OTG) that Gunzilla is developing.
“We are striving to provide players with complete freedom in every detail of OTG, and with each step of its gameplay. In OTG additionally to the core gameplay, players will be able to own and trade their in-game items with other players,” stated Gunzilla CEO and Co-Founder Vlad Korolev.
Off the Grid
Off The Grid (OTG) is a dystopian AAA third person shooter, due for release on PC, PlayStation5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
Focusing on a “strong narrative,” the new game will employ a Free-to-Play model, in a massive Battle Royale setting wherein 150 players can fight against one another using Player Vs player (PvP) and Player Vs Environment (PvE) modes.
Leveraging NFT technology, Off The Grid will allow participants to craft, customize, and trade their in-game possessions in the marketplace, while impacting the game’s story through every decision made by the player.
OTG’s production team is currently led by District 9 director Neill Blomkamp, Altered Carbon author Richard K. Morgan, and Assassin’s Creed/Far Cry writer Olivier Henriot, who will assume the role of Executive Narrative Director for the game.
Founded in 2020, Gunzilla Games is a AAA video game developer with roots in Germany. Led by CEO Vlad Korolev and CSO Alexander Zoll, the company consists of a solid team that includes talents from established studios such as Electronic Arts, THQ, and Ubisoft, to name a few.
The company is now operating in three locations: Kyiv, Ukraine (for programming, support, backend tasks), Los Angeles, USA (base of operations in America), and Frankfurt, Germany (for art, design, development, directorial, and marketing roles).
“The Gunzilla team is nothing short of stellar with industry veterans having contributed to games that many of us grew up playing. We believe that free-to-play reigns supreme and that by combining it with an optional Crypto component, Gunzilla will lead by example, marrying the Crypto and gaming worlds,” stated Republic Capital Senior Director Brian Johnson.
Where to Buy Gunzilla?
The game is still under development and no tokens or NFTs are available to buy or trade at the moment.
