Today’s digest will cover a lot of ground from Web3 games to non-fungible token (NFT) projects, metaverse platforms to DAOs. 

Making noise in Web3 today are well-known names such as Fractal, Nestlé Purina, Oreo, Martha Stewart, Polygon, UNEP, and WordPress. Meanwhile, blockchain-native projects are also drawing some attention in the space. Companies that made waves as of late include Arbitrum Nova, Core DAO, Elixir, Leo AR, NFT Technology, RACA, and Tao Labs, to name a few.

Lastly, Web3 gaming also continues to impact the blockchain space with the latest developments. Entities and titles featured today include Abu Dhabi Gaming, Alien Chicken Farm, Chronos: Dawn of Time, Elrond Mafia, GGslayer, Influence, Legends of Elumia, Matr1x FIRE and The Juice Team, among others.

  • Twitch co-founder Justin Kans’ NFT gaming marketplace Fractal has joined the Polygon ecosystem. The platform will bring its product suite F Studio to the network. Essentially, the offering’s set of tools will allow developers to deploy Web3 features into their gaming projects. Polygon Foundation co-founder Sandeep Nailwal stated that the team-up can help the company realize its goals “to make 2023 the year we bring Web3 gaming to the mass market” (NFTG).

  • Metaverse operating system Croquet OS’ creator Croquet Corporation has launched a WordPress plugin that enables developers to integrate 3D virtual worlds in websites and blogs. Known as the “Croquet Metaverse Web Showcase,” the new feature comes free and does not require any coding knowledge. Basically, Web Showcase can turn 2D websites into immersive environments to enhance customer experiences (PRN).

  • Pet care products manufacturer Nestlé Purina Petcare has integrated metaverse-focused technologies for its operations. In a bid to improve customer experiences, the Nestlé subsidiary has implemented Blue Yonder’s category management solution along with 3DVR Solutions’ (3DVRS) 3D virtual reality (VR) capabilities. The additional features will help Purina’s retail partners in providing easier ways to navigate product displays in stores (BW).

  • Renowned sandwich cookie brand Oreo has launched the “Oreoverse” on Meta’s virtual world platform Horizon Worlds. In Oreoverse, participants can explore a Oreo-themed environment and play mini-games for a shot at the $50,000 grand prize. To hype up the metaverse activation, celebrity chef Martha Stewart will appear in a livestream wherein she will explore the new platform (MD). 

Web3 Games

  • Ethereum Layer-2 (L2) scaling solution Arbitrum Nova and Web3-focused PC game launcher Elixir have formed a partnership. The team-up aims to boost the blockchain gaming industry’s growth. Together, the companies will cover different facets including incubation, launching, distribution, and marketing of Web3 gaming projects. Moreover, the collaboration will also support efforts to introduce blockchain titles to the Web2 market (CN).

  • Web3 gaming center GGslayer recently announced a strategic partnership with Web3 infrastructure solution provider RACA. The gaming-focused metaverse builder will provide GGslater access to its platform, along with its products. Some of the company’s offerings include play-to-earn (P2E) game Metamon, virtual world platform USM metaverse, and RACA’s NFT marketplace (CN).

  • Abu Dhabi Gaming (AD Gaming), a UAE-based gaming and esports collaborative initiative, has signed a partnership agreement with metaverse and Web3 development company AA Meta. The alliance aims to drive the metaverse industry’s growth in the country, as well as provide job opportunities (ZWY).

  • Web3 company Tao Labs has launched its Solana-based title Alien Chicken Farm (ACF). Labeled as a “play-learn-earn” game, ACF offers Web3 first-timers an educational way to learn about blockchain technology. Basically, the project’s gameplay allows players to build and manage a farm where they can breed alien chickens. In addition, players can also obtain alien chicken NFTs from the ACF marketplace using in-game crypto tokens (EIN).

  • Web3 gaming-dedicated award show the Gam3r’s Choice Awards has set a milestone with 29,928 casted votes across 15 categories. The team will award the winners on the 31st of January in Miami, Florida. To celebrate the achievement, W3b Gamer also teased a $1,000 giveaway (TW).

NFT News

  • German car maker Porsche recently launched its NFT collection, featuring digital replicas of their iconic 911 sports car line. Priced at 0.911 $ETH ($1,416.67 as of this writing), the project had only sold 1,600 of the total 7,500 minted NFTs so far. Moreover, some of the pieces have already started selling at lower prices on secondary marketplaces. The community cited the lack of Web3 community involvement as the main reason for the project’s weak sales (CD).

  • Augmented reality (AR) app company Leo AR has unveiled a 3D NFT collection to its platform. Dubbed “Leo 3D Lions for AR,” the project is obtainable via Leo AR’s in-app NFT marketplace. Leo AR plans to expand its library of 3D NFTs that holders can use in their AR app (BW). 

  • NFT Technology, a company that specializes in helping top-tier brands and IP holders accelerate their entry into Web3, has announced a strategic focus on the sport of golf. Part of the initiative includes collaborating with some of the most established golf championships. Furthermore, the venture will cover various facets of Web3 including NFTs and metaverse experiences (BW).

Into the Metaverse

  • The European Union’s executive body the European Commission is set to publish on May 24, a bill to support the creation of a digital euro. Moreover, a separate initiative centered on the metaverse is scheduled on May 3, under the leadership of digital commissioner Margrethe Vestager. “The metaverse is one of the pressing challenges ahead of us,” a commission spokesperson stated (CD).

  • The United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Ozone Secretariat has launched “Apollo’s Edition,” a metaverse-based simulator game. The organization will offer the project through the Reset the Earth platform. It will provide educators with tools and resources to teach about environmental care. According to Ozone Secretariat executive secretary Meg Seki, the initiative aims to inspire the youth “to become the future scientists and policy-makers championing environmental protection” (NFTG).

  • India-based real estate website Square Yards has launched its own virtual world. The immersive and interactive metaverse platform enables users to visit properties in a digital replica of a real-world city. Using avatars, customers can explore neighborhoods in a 3D-designed environment. Along with the official launch, the company also hosted a panel discussion on “Metaverse & Digital Revolution of Real Estate” (CW).

Around the Blockchain

  • Web3 infrastructure company QuickNode has secured $60 million in a Series B funding round, bringing the firm’s post-valuation to $800 million. The fundraise was led by 10T Holdings, with participation from Protocol Labs, QED, Seven Seven Six, and Tiger Global. According to the team, QuickNode will use the capital to “accelerate the company’s global expansion,” as well as “further empower the builders laying the groundwork for a decentralized, globally-connected future” (PRN).

  • The United States’ Blockchain Association has named its board of directors for 2023-2024. The new board consists of representatives from blockchain-native companies such as Chainalysis, ConsenSys, Kraken, Ledger, and UniSwap Labs, among others. According to Blockchain Association CEO Kristin Smith, the new board “will lend their vision, their expertise, and their diligence” to help ensure that the US “embraces and supports the growth of crypto” (BSCN).

  • Decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) Core DAO has integrated with LayerZero Labs’ Omnichain interoperability protocol LayerZero. The move will enable Core DAO to interact with other blockchains, as well as bridge other assets into its network. “LayerZero provides the framework for scalable, secure, and decentralized cross-chain interoperability,” Core DAO stated in an announcement (BSCN).

Web3 Content Creators

  • Brycent: Twitch streamer Brycent teased a mysterious Web3 project that blockchain gaming ecosystem Neon Link “has been building in stealth.” Although the content creator did not divulge any title, the upcoming game featured a promising third-person shooter sci-fi project in its development stages.

  • Cagy: Cagy’s Web3 gaming community The Juice Team recently announced its first-ever NFT skin collection for Founders Key holders. Slated for launch this week, the airdrop is also coinciding with an “open beta collaboration” with Polygon-based role-playing game (RPG) Chronos: Dawn of Time. According to Cagy, the skins also serve as “armors and weapons with stats in game.”

  • Hustle: Crypto Banter host Hustle is slated to join the latest episode of Neo Tokyo Code’s “Interlinked.” With goals of “Bringing Web3 to the Masses,” the Twitter spaces session will also feature Inc. 500 entrepreneur Brian D. Evans and Wasder CEO Thomas Grønnevik.

  • Spike: Web3 gaming content creator Spike has highlighted several interesting projects recently. Titles that the esports player featured include grand strategy game Influence and massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Legends of Elumia. Meanwhile, shooter games that caught Spike’s attention are Elrond Mafia and Matr1x FIRE.

  • Stache: Web3 gaming YouTuber Stache joined fellow host JChains in the latest edition of “The NFT Beat.” The episode touched on a variety of topics including Porsche’s NFT fail and Fractal’s entry into the Polygon ecosystem. In addition, the duo also talked about Limit Break’s Super Bowl NFT mint and Doodles’ Golden Wolf acquisition.
